My Personal Reaction

Did certain parts of the book make you uncomfortable? If so, why did you feel that way? Did this lead to a new understanding or awareness of some aspect of your life you might not have thought about before?

certain parts of the story describe how Susie Salmon was murdered, how she was cut up by a razor and her body was dumped in cement so her evidence could not be found, while reading this made me feel uncomfortable how someone could do such a thing, even though its written in the book, theres also terrible people out there that really do these type of things to human beings.

Because of Anya by Margaret peterson Haddix

The characters do not react the way they would in a real situation. Because of Anya's hair cancer, she does not want anyone to know about it because she will feel all embarrassed about people knowing about it. She tries to hide it but that does not work, some girls found out about it and others did not. That is not how it would be in real life because if it were real life then most people would tell other people about it. They would tell people that they would trust and that would try to help them and pray for them to get better.

The Characters do seem real and believable just by the way they act. The act like they are the ones that actually tell the story. The way they act shows that they are believable and good people on how they care for anya. Anya is the one with the hair cancer. She was trying not to show it or let anyone find out about it. Although the way that she acted and the way it looked gave it off to some girls in her class. Especially it being the same as her real hair and how it looks exactly like her real hair, it still shows no matter what it looks like.

The Setting

The story "The Lovely Bones" takes place in the early 1970's where The character Salmon is lured in some kind of 'hut hole" located in a corn field environment, this is the main scene of the story because the cornfield is where Salmon was raped and murdered by her neighbor.

The Rag and Bone Shop by Robert Cormier (finished book)

The mystery of this book is relatively common like CSI on TV. This book starts off with a murder end ends with who did it. But just like CSi it takes time before the killer is found. Questioning everyone that seen the victum that last day or even moments of their life.

In the blink of an eye a young girl was murdered. Her name was Alicia Bartlett and she was seven years old. The suspect, a twelve year old named Jason Dorrant. Jason happen to have a bad temper and no real alibi for the time Alicia was murdered. It also doesn't help that Jason was the last person known to see her alive. So obviously they would suspect Jason as the killer because he hurt a boy at school and he never hung with anyone his own age and he was normally quiet. This so far seems to be like CSI but you know just as well as I know that CSI always has a twist in it.

This book is really like reading a CSI episode when Trent, an interrogator was sent in to get Jason to talk. Unable to get him to crack the investigators find out that someone Else's story doesn't match up. After making Jason think he was helping the case he realizes that he is a suspect. But why he wondered? He liked Alicia she was kind to him and she would let him help her with her puzzles. As does CSI the story is turned now 'another suspect and the outcome is unbelievable.

I loved reading this book because I love watching CSI and this book is like a CSI television show. With mystery, suspense and a twisted ending you can't go wrong. So who murdered Alicia? Just like CSI you have to go through and read the whole book to find out.

Fatality By Caroline B. Cooney (131-ending)

As I completed this book the mystery of the diary begins to appear. As I read page by page the suspense begins to rise. This book has the most non thought of ending. I am please to say that Cooney takes mystery and suspense to another level. She makes the characters known, but full of mystery. As I began to get closer to the end of the book the pages from the diary began to come back. Thinking Rose was hiding the murder of Frannie the Rose soon finds out their is a murder related to that weekend and the Loffts. But the catch is it wasn't Frannie. So who was it? Chrissie soon finds out.

As rose's life changes in a moment of truth she comes to realize that the person that tried to kill her was someone he rand her brother knew. Rose goes with him thinking that she is not in danger. Thinking they were getting her brother from the airport. Rose realizes that her life is in danger. Alan and Crissie go after Rose after realizing that something is wrong. So as the ending of the book comes closer the mystery inside the journal unfolds. Yes their was a secret Rose was trying to keep hiding. But it wasn't the death of Frannie Bailey. Rose realizes that she is know in the presence of the real murderer of Frannie.

Finally Rose is safe. But what of the secret she desperately tried to hide? She now knows that she did write a murder down in her diary but that wasn't what she hiding she thought what she wrote down didn't mean anything because she didn't actually see a murder so she thought nothing of it. But the real secret she was hiding was much worse to her. One she thought could change her whole life and her family. One she can't hold in any longer.

This book has past the expatiation I had for it. I initially thought at the beginning of the book that it wont get interesting and will keep talking about Rose's life and the journal. Cooney kept making me wait to get to the juicy parts. But in the end it was worth reading the boring stuff because without all the information about her brother's band, her crush, her best friend and the secret the ending wouldn't be as surprising as it was. Reading this book took time and concentration but it was time well spent. So if you like mystery books or books that keep you in suspense I think you should read Fatality By Caroline B. Cooney. This is the most twisted and outrageous book I have ever read. the ending like I said is worth the wait.

My First Post

The Book I chose is called "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold, its about a young girl named Salmon, whom was raped and murdered by a fellow neighbor.
this Book interesting because its a murder mystery and these are the kind of books i enjoy reading.
The thing I like about this book is that its very detailed and it keeps you wondering whats going to happen next.

(New Book) Fatality by Caroline B. Cooney (pgs.1-131)

Fatality overall is a mysterious book. The mystery of the book comes from the main character Rose Lymond. This character is full of mystery and she brings the story to life. Rose was always a "good girl" until one weekend changed her life. This weekend was suppose to be the best weekend of her life because Rose was invited to Anjelica Lofft's lake estate for the weekend.

Anjelica Lofft was one of the most popular girls in 7th grade and to go to her house for the weekend was a privilege. Bu that weekend came to haunt Rose for the new four years when that weekend Frannie (Mr. Lofft's partner)was murdered and by chance on their way up to the estate they had stopped at Frannie's house and Mr.Lofft and Frannie had gotten into an argument.

Everyone, unsure on what really happen that weekend tries to get Rose to spill. But Rose stands her ground and says "nothing happen". Still everyone knows something happen. Why else would she steal a cop car to rips the last pages written in her diary the week of the murder. That weekend not only effected her but secretly effected those that knew about it. Rose didn't know that three people had read those dreadful pages. One being Anjelica and the other two Alan (Rose's crush) and Chrissie (Rose's bast friend).

The plot of the book pulled me in because just by reading what i have already read, it makes me feel like i should not stop reading it that i should atleast finish the whole book. As you know i am not a reader. I find this book interesting. Just by the plot pulling me into finishing this book. This book is about a girl who has hair cancer and she went to her doctor for it and he said its cancer called "Alopecia areata" . He said there is a possibity that she may never get her hair back. Once they heard him say that they got all upset. She does not to wear a wig her whole entire life. She is trying to find a way to get her hair back so she dont have to deal with the wig anymore so she can a have her real life back. Some of her classmates knows all about her wig but she does not know they know all about it only because they are not telling her that they know. They do not want her to feel all awkward that all her hair is falling out. Hearing about the hair cancer makes me want to see if it heals or not. I just want to find out what comes next. I atleast hope something good happens next and nothing bad.

Alopecia areata (AA) is a form of hair loss from areas of the body, usually from the scalp.[1] Because it causes bald spots on the head, especially in the first stages, it is sometimes called spot baldness. In 1%–2% of cases, the condition can spread to the entire scalp (Alopecia totalis) or to the entire epidermis (Alopecia universalis).

The Girl Death Left Behind (finished the book) by Lurlene McDaniel

The book I have read is an astounding book. Lurlene made Beth (which is the main character) seem so realistic. I think that people under the same circumstance as Beth would have acted in the same way. When Beth lost her family all she could think about was that it was a nightmare and she would wake up from it. Beth's character becomes distance from everyone after the lose of her family which is normal to a young person when they lose people dear to them even older people may act in the same way and become distanced.

Beth continues living her life with her only family left (aunt, uncle, and cousin). Beth lives her life as if it was dream in which she believes she will wake up from it. When reality sets in Beth then tried to think she was just visiting her aunt, uncle, and cousin and her family was safe at home.

Beth's character makes her easy to understand and the situations around her effect her personality. This book is full of drama between Beth and her cousin, death ( Beth's immediate family), and emotions in which effect the reader as well. While I read this book and Beth tells her story about the lose of her family her emotions seem to interact with my emotions. This book almost made me cry. You can't help but put yourself in her position and in some way relate to the story.

Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer Pages: 1-144

So, the book I'm reading is about this early twenty something kid who
is pretty alienated. It's a nonfiction book, and since I haven't
summed it up yet in a previous response, it's about a kid who is
searching for meaning in life and seeks this meaning by exploring.
At the beginning of the book we find out that he ends up dying in the
middle of Alaska to exposure.

Even though I think I'm supposed to, I'm having a really hard time
identifying with the main character, Chris McCandless. I look at
the cover and there's this picture of Emile Hirsch portraying
McCandless. He's a good looking kid, and he's kind of sitting in this
"top of the world" type dominant pose. The author seems to really
identify with the character, and spends a couple of chapters relating
his own similar experiences. And McCandless is seemingly the rugged,
individualistic antihero that Americans celebrate.

But, I can't get into him, and I think it's because I'm a parent
now. I see the way this kid abandoned his parents, went off into the
middle of nowhere, took chances, didn't write home, and espoused his
theories on the way life works to whomever would listen, and I'm
like, "dude...call your mom, dad and sister. They're worried sick."
The kid is kind of portrayed as this spiritual, deep Thoreau quoting
prophetic figure, but he just strikes me as naive and self centered.
I don't know what I'd do if I was his parent. I would be devastated
if my son took off after graduating college and just disappeared.
It's really rather sad.

(By the way, if you're wondering, this response is to the 7th bullet
under character. The total length of this response is 279 words. I
summed up the book to start because I figured you'd need that
information, but then I really tried to stick to talking about
whether or not I identified with the main character and why.)

Introduction to my book

I am reading "The Girl Death Left Behind" by Lurlene McDaniel. This book is about a young girl that can't stand her family sometimes. Everything in her life changes after a terrible accident that she wishes was a dream. She finds herself being the last one left in her household. She begins to realize that her family meant more to her then she thought.

One thing I like about this book is it is filled with emotions. You can't help but want to cry while Beth tells you her story. This book is filled with real life problems, the loss of loved ones, and has a little romantic twist which effects Beth's new life far away from what she use to call home.

The Begining

Hello everybody, I'm reading The Golden Compass, written by Philip Pullman. So far the book has started off with an interesting storyline. She is in a room that she is not allowed to be in and sees a powder being poured into a drink that will be given to Lord Asriel, which happens to be her uncle.She doesn't know weather she should say something and save his life,or stay out of trouble and keep her mouth shut.
One thing i like about this book so far is the descriptive style of writing the author has. He give you every detail needed to make the reader feel as if they are in the book.very descriptive and very interesting.

Introduction

My book is about a girl who has hair cancer. She is in a class with this other girl that knows that she has cancer but is not supposed to know. This girls hair keeps on falling out in little spots at a time. First on the top of her head and then next on the back of her head and now behind her ear. She found a wig that looks exactly like her real hair.


I dont like this book so far because of hearing that this girl has hair cancer. Her doctor cannot do anything about this cancer. The doctor told her that the cancer is so bad that she may not recieve her hair back. She is just gonna keep on losing it. There is no cure.

Welcome

Hello folks. I just wanted to give you a hearty welcome to the
blogosphere (the world of weblogs, according to my widget dictionary).

I'm going to send you more meaty information in the next few days
(right now I'm testing out the "mail to blogger" option I told some
of you about today).

But for now, I want to talk to you about grammar and conventions.
These are blogs for my English class, and I expect you to follow the
rules of standard English as best as you can. Some of our previous
rm305 blog discussions were replete with mistake after mistake. You
may IM your friends and write on Myspace one way, but on these blogs
we are going to assume a more academic diction.
